Former Bloodborne Producer Opens New Studio for High-End Console Games

Toru Yamashita, the former producer of PlayStation and the acclaimed game Bloodborne, has established a new studio aimed at creating high-quality console games.

Mr. Yamashita, who previously worked at Sony’s PlayStation Studio Japan, has announced the launch of his new studio named Sirius. Based in Tokyo, this studio will primarily focus on developing top-tier console games and virtual reality (VR) experiences.

Yamashita’s significant work history makes this move particularly noteworthy. Before departing from PlayStation Studio Japan in 2020, he served as a producer on successful projects including Bloodborne from FromSoftware, the Demon’s Souls remake for the PS5 console, and Soul Sacrifice for the PS Vita handheld. He also produced the highly praised Astro Bot Rescue Mission, a virtual reality game.

After leaving PlayStation Studio Japan, Yamashita briefly worked as a developer at Thirdverse, a company focused on virtual reality technology. However, due to his dissatisfaction with the company’s shift towards the casual gaming market, he decided to found Sirius Studio. He has launched this new studio with the support of a Japanese publisher named gz.

gz, which has been established since 2013, has primarily focused on mobile and VR projects. It appears that by backing the creation of Sirius Studio, the company is taking a significant step towards entering the more complex and serious game development space.
